王毅說，日本若能透過G7聚焦發展問題，和G20呼應，並與大陸合作振興亞洲經濟，「這是亞洲各國求之不得的」。希望這番勸說能進入到日本領導人的頭腦中，引發日方思考，而不是總是想別的事情，做一些與本身無關的事情，或是做一些外界不希望看到的事情。

七國集團峰會（G7）正在日本舉行，路透報導，各領導人達成協議，認為必須就中國南海及東海議題釋出強烈訊息，在此區域中國與日本及一些東南亞鄰國存在領土爭端。中國大陸外交部長王毅26日為二十國集團峰會（G20）舉行媒體簡報時，意有所指地表示，希望日本領袖別老是做「與本身無關的事」。

王毅說，大陸在南海問題上的立場明確，就是根據國際法和《南海各方行為宣言》規定，與直接當事國透過對話談判和平解決爭議。「中方的正當立場正得到世界愈來愈多國家的支持，我們會繼續堅持下去。」

王毅強調，大陸認為G7不管談什麼議題，都應秉持客觀公正原則，「不能搞雙重標準」，更不應該加劇或刺激區域局勢緊張。

媒體詢問G7是否合適討論南海問題，王毅表示，G7本來是討論世界經濟的論壇，大陸當然希望G7能聚焦目前國際最關心的經濟金融和發展問題，但具體商談議題是G7成員「自己的事情」。
